Decolonial Directions:
Rivers, Relationships, and Realities of Community Engagement on Indigenous Lands

Rachel Jackson, University of Oklahoma
Phil Bratta, Oklahoma State University

The image below presents the seven sacred directions acknowledged by both Cherokee and Muscogee Creek cultures, among others, as entry points to our installation. Hovering over and selecting a direction leads to its associated media and placard. We do not provide a specific navigational starting point as a way to highlight the affective experience of non-linearity inherent to the process of decolonization. We also want our piece to reflect the experience of entering a curated space (in contrast to traditional academic articles where most readers begin with the introduction and end with the conclusion). Further explanation for the project design can be found on our orientation page.

A PDF of the alphabetic text for this project is available here.
